Music Theory Blog

I started my musical journey on the violin. Like most violin students out there, I had little interest in music theory. My lack of harmonic understanding only started to bother me in my teens. Despite being able to play highly virtuosic pieces by Paganini, Wieniawski, and Vieuxtemps, I could not harmonise even a simple melody to save my life. In fact, it was precisely that technical ability that underscored my lack of musical knowledge. I thought to myself, “If I don’t know what I’m doing, am I really a master of my instrument?”

Although the journey is very much your own, and you will be required to put in a great deal of work to get good at music, I will be able to point you in the right direction, allowing you to avoid pitfalls and fruitless weeks stuck in intellectual ruts.
